IDAHOBIT – May 17th

IDAHOBIT stands for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia.

It’s a day for remembering the pain that LGBT+ people have been through. It’s a day to promote equality. And it’s a day to remind people that nobody gets a free card to be Homophobic, Biphobic, Interphobic, or Transphobic – no matter who they are.

It’s officially 27 years since being gay was declassified as a mental illness. We’ve also made strides for marriage equality and have equality in 26 countries around the world, a new one being in Taiwan, which was announced yesterday.

But the fight for equality isn’t over. People should have the ability to love who they love and be who they are, without facing bullying and abuse over their sexuality or gender.

The first step to equality is to know that everyone should be equal and to stand against those who say otherwise.
