Pulse Remembrance 2019

Another year has gone by, and I wish we could say that it’s gotten better, but it hasn’t.
Three years have gone by since fifty lives were taken in the Orlando nightclub. And what do we have to show for it?
Unfortunately, not a lot.

The latest horrors of the world still show that LGBTQIA people are being murdered for existing and LGBTQIA spaces are being invaded in the same way with Neo-Nazis arriving at Pride in Detroit with a Police Escort protecting them and not the people who actually needed protecting, the parade ended with a report of gunshots being fired in the crowd and LGBTQIA folk, once again, running for their lives.
It’s a sad day, knowing that there are so many remembrance days and weeks, and months, for us and our people.
A reminder of those who died, and their ages:

The fight isn’t over – not by a long shot. Again, we have been asked why we still need a Pride Month, Week, or even a Pride Parade.
What we need to make sure that those questioning people understand is this: Pride was founded on pain and a fight for rights. In the same way that it was needed fifty years ago, it is still needed now.
We remember them, their suffering, but also the lives they lead. We offer our condolences and support to their families and those left behind after the attack.
We continue to fight in their name, not only for justice but for peace. They didn’t get to live their lives, so we need to make sure that others have the opportunities they, unfortunately, didn’t.
